The WesAudio Phoebe is a 500 Series mic/line/instrument preamp that’s packed with cutting-edge features. While the Class A signal path is 100% analog, Phoebe offers full control and automation from your DAW — the perfect integration of analog and digital technologies. A top-panel combo jack gives you a TRS hi-Z instrument DI plus XLR mic and line-level inputs. With 75dB of microphone gain on tap, you’ll have copious clean headroom for even your lowest-output passive ribbon mics, while selectable input impedance lets you obtain optimal sound from any mic. For precise gain staging, Phoebe is equipped with WesAudio’s proprietary Iron Pad, a passive circuit placed after the output transformer that gives you control over output attenuation in 1dB steps up to -15dB. And speaking of transformers, Phoebe has two of them (input and output), and they’re genuine Carnhills — an intrinsic component of Phoebe’s legendary big-iron sound. 100% analog, full digital control

WesAudio, a company masterminded by Radoslaw Wesolowski and headquartered in Poland, spearheaded an initiative they call “ng,” which stands for next generation. Phoebe, like all the company’s ng500 products, is designed with a special connector that mates with receiver connectors in the company’s Titan NG500 Recall chassis. On its rear panel, Titan is fitted with a USB jack for connection to your computer, as well as Ethernet for networked setups. All ng500-compatible modules in the rack are able to communicate with your computer via a single data cable. Not a Titan owner? You can still access full digital recall via Phoebe’s convenient top-panel mini USB socket.

An elegant marriage of hardware and software

With the ng program now having been extended to 19-inch rack equipment, the gear — both 500 Series and rackmount — includes free downloadable software that appears in your DAW session as a standard plug-in and lets you control your analog hardware with software precision. Every setting and automation move is saved along with your DAW session file. How cool is that?
